RENATO PAGNANI LIKES IT WHEN PEOPLE TALK FAST OVER 4/4 BEATS

I love how the beat keeps mutating, introducing new layers and shedding others until it finally clicks into place more than halfway through (!) the track. Travis Stewart (aka machinedrum aka Sepalcure aka Syndrone) stays killin’ ‘em. And, damn, Banks can really rap her ass off.
Pac, Del the Funky Homosapien, some guy I don’t know and Prince Paul classic shot

This track really hits me hard. Hope in Dirt City is out today. It’s worth your money.

And here, for the first time ever in the Summer Mix series, is Volume 2, also known as People Get Still. I’ve always liked the idea of creating a complimentary sister volume to my summer mixes that had different goals. Thus far, all the mixes I’ve made have been more oriented to day activities, I’ve felt, although of course would work at a party or a BBQ as the sun sets. But a volume dedicated to nocturnal activities felt like a good idea, so here one is. If I’ve picked the right tracks and sequenced this properly, Volume 2 is the kind of mix that should work best anytime after 6pm, the latter-half especially well at about 2:48am, when you’re fading but still have the energy to make a play as the stars bounce off the calm waters of the lake you’re at, feet dangling off the dock in the August-warm waters, hands locked with that one person who spins you about.
If you’ve noticed… the album covers for both volumes of the mix have changed over the last few days. The ones I put up when I first released this year’s mix were just placeholders until the real things, courtesy of my incredible girlfriend, were ready. I would like to give a big thanks to her! So update your album art in iTunes if you’ve already enjoying Summer Mix 12, or why not download the mix right now, if you haven’t yet?
Enjoy!

DOWNLOAD SUMMER MIX 12 VOLUME 1
Like we always do at this time. Summer Mix 12: Volume 1, also known as Ganglion. This is the seventh (!) edition of my annual summer mix, which began as a for-friends project to embark on every spring while anticipating summer’s arrival. I’ve always been enamoured with the idea of specific songs being associated with specific summers, and I’ve also always wanted to share the music I would spend hours finding on the internets with my friends. In one way, making a mix like this is kind of artificially dictating what becomes the songs that one might end up associating with a summer instead of letting it happen organically, but I’ve always viewed these mixes more as surveys of what I’ve been listening to in the last few months and have evoked ‘summer’ in some way. As lame as it might sound, these mixes have always been about sharing for me, a communal listening experience. No one will ever like every song I put on every edition of the Summer Mix, but I hope everyone likes a bunch and maybe even really loves a few.
You may notice that there’s a Volume 1 that follows Summer Mix 12 this year. This means that this year also marks the first year—after promising that I would do so—that I’ve made a second volume for the summer mix. The second volume is more of a night-oriented mix, while this one is more of a day-oriented mix, if that means anything. I will make another post shortly with the second volume of this year’s Summer Mix. For now, here’s the tracklist of Summer Mix 12: Volume 1.
Enjoy!
